We helped The Open Medicine Project launch their brand and expand their reach into the rest of Africa. We worked with them to develop a brand strategy, create a brand and grow into the markets they were targeting. Reaching 173 countries and empowering more than 18 800 health-care workers within one year, The Open Medicine Project is a glowing success for the African continent.
The Open Medicine Project creates mobile applications that solve some of the world’s most urgent health-care issues. Led by a passionate team of medical professionals, they bring together doctors, developers and designers to collaborate and develop open-source solutions that empower health-care workers in the developing world. They position themselves as a collaborative body at the intersection of health-care and technology – with a mission to improve the health system.
“Bringing together doctors, developers and designers to collaborate and develop open-source solutions.”
We hosted workshops with the founders and team to develop the best strategy for their brand’s growth and development. We conducted market research in the medical and technology industries that formed the basis of our brand strategy going forward. Insights like the target market’s affinity for facts and data, their love for collaboration and community, or their aspirations of changing the world and making a real difference were cornerstones of our creative work. We explored the global mobile health industry as well as took a closer look at case studies from our very own continent. The Open Medicine Project was well positioned for growth.
Our creative work focused on growing The Open Medicine Project’s influence in the mobile health sector and inspiring doctors and institutions from around the world to join their cause. We created marketing that shared their mission and rallied support from clients, donors and volunteers. We launched booklets and business profiles which promoted the philosophy of The Open Medicine Project, showed off their impact and introduced their cause while urging readers to get involved. We created public-facing social media campaigns to inspire involvement and further position The Open Medicine Project as a thought leader amongst the medical community.
“The Open Medicine Project took shape as the centre where doctors, developers and designers worked together to change the world.”
Sharply targeted at medical professionals and medical institutions, we designed the website as a portal where doctors and developers could sign up and get involved. The website enabled us to share more details about the movement as well as show off the case-studies and success metrics of each mobile application. Open-source resources were made available through the portal and we encouraged developers to download, improve upon or collaborate with the team to create new solutions, while project donors and medical institutions were invited to fund new projects or request a collaboration. The Open Medicine Project took shape as the centre where doctors, developers and designers worked together to change the world.
“We worked to build a brand at the heart of mobile health innovation in Africa.”
With collaborative projects involving The University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, Doctors Without Borders and Metropolitan Health underway, we were able to effectively show off the credibility of the tech. The mobile applications saw a surge in success, with their information being accessed over 1 000 000 times, being used in 173 countries by 18 800 health-care workers around the world.
We worked to build a brand at the heart of mobile health innovation in Africa and The Open Medicine Project is slowly becoming one of the most important brands in the African health sector. This team of passionate doctors will definitely continue to change the world.
